Devices, drivers, browsers and operating systems vary enormously. A step that resolves a problem on one machine may do nothing on another, or occasionally make things worse. Use your judgement, and where equipment is valuable or business critical, consult a qualified technician.
What the test results mean
Our tools report what your browser can observe about your devices. That is useful, but it has limits worth understanding.

These are indicative diagnostics, not certified measurements. Do not rely on them as evidence in a warranty claim, insurance matter, purchase dispute or legal proceeding without independent verification.

Please read this before making system changes. Some of our troubleshooting guides describe changes to drivers, privacy settings, firmware, terminal commands and physical hardware. These carry real risk.
In particular:
- Driver changes can leave a device unusable if interrupted or misapplied.
- BIOS and UEFI settings can prevent a computer from starting if changed incorrectly.
- Terminal and command line instructions run with elevated privileges and can affect the whole system.
- Opening a device, including to clean a keyboard or reseat a cable, will usually void the manufacturer's warranty and can cause damage.
- Physical pressure on a screen, sometimes suggested for stuck pixels, can crack a panel permanently.
- Resetting or reinstalling can erase data if it has not been backed up.

Accuracy and currency
We take care to describe settings accurately, but software changes constantly. Menu names move between operating system versions, applications redesign their settings, and steps that were correct when written can become outdated without notice.
Where a described menu does not match what you see, your version has probably changed. Corrections are genuinely welcome through the contact page.
