Is Webcamp free?
Yes. Every test is free, with no account, no sign-up and no usage limit.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs in your browser. There is no extension, plugin or download of any kind.
Is my video recorded or uploaded?
No. Your camera and microphone streams are handled entirely by your browser and never sent to any server. There is no recording.
Why does the browser ask for permission?
Browsers require explicit consent before any site can open a camera or microphone. That prompt comes from your browser, not from this page, and the permission applies only to this site.
How do I revoke permission afterwards?
Click the camera or lock icon at the left of your address bar and change the setting, or clear site permissions in your browser settings. Access also ends automatically when you close the tab.
Does this work on a phone or tablet?
Yes, on both Android and iOS in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. On devices with more than one camera you can switch between the front and rear lens.
Why does the preview show me backwards?
The preview is mirrored by default because that is what video calling apps show you locally. Use the unmirror button to see yourself the way other people do.
My camera works here but not in Zoom or Teams. What now?
That is a useful result: it rules out hardware and driver faults. The problem is inside that application, usually its device selection or its operating system permission. See the Zoom guide in our troubleshooting section.
Why is my frame rate low?
Usually lighting. Camera sensors hold each frame open longer in dim conditions, which drops the rate. Add light in front of you and the number will normally rise.
Why is my resolution lower than advertised?
Many budget webcams advertise a resolution they reach by upscaling in software. The readout shows what the camera is actually sending, which is the number that matters.
Can two applications use the camera at once?
On Windows, usually not. Most cameras allow one program to hold the stream at a time, which is why a black screen here often means another app still has the device open.
Does the site work offline?
The pages need to load from the internet, but once loaded, no test sends any data. There is no offline mode.
